Cuba's Classic Cars

A book of photography that celebrates classic American cars still running on the streets of Cuba on a daily basis. For anyone traveling to Cuba, watching traffic gives one a sense of having traveled through time, back to an era a few generations ago.

Cars, bicycles and horse-drawn buggies share the roads. Classic American cars dominate the roadways. Unlike the United States, where collectors rarely drive their classics unless the weather is pristine. In Cuba, they drive them out of necessity.

If a car breaks down in the middle of the street and the car owner cannot fix it, a tow truck is not called. Instead, a mechanic is contacted and comes to the scene to fix the car on the spot; not unlike a house call by a doctor at the beginning of the last century. The Cuban answer to AAA roadside service.
