Bio

Carlos Jiménez Flores is the first Puerto Rican director in history to have three films theatrically released in less than a year. The films were released by Caribbean Cinemas in Puerto Rico. He wrote, directed and produced two of the films, Mi Princesa and Motel 666, through his production company, KACHI FILMS; and wrote and directed the film, Deceived, for which he was hired to do by Ricucci Films.

 

A former high school and college dropout, Jiménez Flores is a graduate of Northeastern Illinois University, having earned his bachelors in 2006. He majored in Human Resource Development, with a minor in Sociology. He was a transfer from Wilbur Wright Community College, where he earned his Associates and made the Dean's List 2002. He is also a member of Phi Theta Kappa, which is the international honor society of two-year colleges. He attended both Wells and Clemente High Schools, having graduated from the latter with honors.

 

A product of poverty, public housing and the inner city, Carlos views his experiences as vital to his creativity, passion and work ethic. In December 2008, he moved to Los Angeles to help a friend with a film. He now has written, directed and/or produced fourteen feature films; Fast Lane, Lean Like a Cholo, Scalene, Pendejo, What Was I Thinking, Mi Princesa, Motel 666, Demon in the Creek, The Manor, Deceived, Dōw, Bliss Eternal, Rémora and is currently filming Era del Silencio. 

 

Carlos Jiménez Flores is also a published poet. He has released ten books of poetry (From the Other Side of the Tracks, Ghetto Faith, One Percent, La Sombra en Agosto, Bliss Eternal, Clover, Two Oranges on a Lemon Tree, Amor Sin Condición, Sitting at the Edge of Existence and Wish) through his publishing company, CANEY PUBLISHING. The next project will be anthology of his published poetry with a dash of new poetry. He also has published a book of photography, Cuba's Classic Cars. He has published his first novel, Stronger than the Devil, which is a joint project with published author, Louis Enrique Martínez. His latest book is Bicentennial: The Memoirs of an 8 Year Old Puerto Rican Immigrant.

 

He is the creator of the Boricua Film Festival which is an annual international traveling film festival that features films done in Puerto Rico. He is also the creator of the Humboldt Park Film Festival which is an annual event held in Chicago which screens films, both features and shorts, made by Puerto Ricans. He is a co-founder of the Festival de Cine Tuluá Borikén which features films from Colombia and Puerto Rico. That festival is held in Tuluá, Colombia the first week of November and in Puerto Rico the first week of May. 

 

Carlos currently resides in Puerto Rico.

 

 

 

Carlos Jiménez Flores es el primer director puertorriqueño en la historia en estrenar tres películas en el cine en menos de un año. Las películas fueron estrenadas por Caribbean Cinemas en Puerto Rico. Escribió, dirigió y produjo dos de las películas, Mi Princesa y Motel 666, a través de su productora, KACHI FILMS; y escribió y dirigió la película Deceived, para la cual fue contratado por Ricucci Films de Los Angeles. 

 

Jiménez Flores, que abandonó la escuela secundaria y la universidad, se graduó de Northeastern Illinois University y obtuvo su bachillerato en 2006. Se especializó en Desarrollo de Recursos Humanos, con especialización en Sociología. Fue transferido de Wilbur Wright Community College, donde obtuvo su Asociado e hizo la Lista del Decano en 2002. También es miembro de Phi Theta Kappa, que es la sociedad de honor internacional de universidades de dos años. Asistió a las escuelas secundarias William Wells y Roberto Clemente en Chicago, y se graduó de esta última con honores.

 

Producto de la pobreza, la vivienda pública y el centro de la ciudad, Carlos ve sus experiencias como vitales para su creatividad, pasión y ética de trabajo. En diciembre de 2008, se mudó a Los Ángeles para ayudar a un amigo con una película. Ahora ha escrito, dirigido y/o producido catorce largometrajes; Fast Lane, Lean Like a Cholo, Scalene, Pendejo, What Was I Thinking, Mi Princesa, Motel 666, Demon in the Creek, The Manor, Deceived, Dōw, Bliss Eternal, Rémora y actualmente filma Era del Silencio.

 

Carlos Jiménez Flores es también un poeta publicado. Ha publicado diez libros de poesía (From the Other Side of the Tracks, Ghetto Faith, One Percent, La Sombra en Agosto, Bliss Eternal, Clover, Two Oranges on a Lemon Tree, Amor Sin Condición, Sitting at the Edge of Existence y Wish) a través de su editorial, CANEY Publishing. El próximo proyecto será una antología de su poesía publicada con una pizca de nueva poesía. También ha publicado un libro de fotografía, Cuba’s Classic Cars. Ha publicado su primera novela, Stronger Than the Devil, que es un proyecto conjunto con el autor publicado, Louis Enrique Martínez. Su último libro es, Bicentennial: The Memoirs of an 8 Year Old Puerto Rican Immigrant.

 

Es el creador del Boricua Film Festival, que es un festival de cine itinerante que presenta películas realizadas en Puerto Rico. También es el creador del Humboldt Park Film Festival, que es un evento anual que se lleva a cabo en Chicago y proyecta películas, tanto largometrajes como cortometrajes, realizadas por puertorriqueños. Es co-fundador del Festival de Cine Tuluá Borikén que presenta películas de Colombia y Puerto Rico. Dicho festival se realiza en Tuluá, Colombia la primera semana de noviembre y en Puerto Rico la primera semana de mayo.

 

Carlos actualmente reside en Puerto Rico.
